 What materials for children's bedding take into account?

When choosing bed linen for children, it is worth taking into account fabrics based on two raw materials: pure cotton, bamboo and their mixtures. Pillows or sheets made of polyester fabrics only are not recommended for direct contact with the skin, especially for the youngest children.

Traditional material for children's bedding: Cotton

Cotton is a natural fiber - in order to provide our children with maximum comfort and take care of their delicate skin, it is worth looking for products made of organic cotton. Good-quality bed linen for children is certified by Oeko-Tex Standard 100 or GOTS (Global Organic Textile Standard). Cotton absorbs moisture well, conducts heat and does not pick up static, and also does not cause allergies, which will surely satisfy parents of babies with allergies, for whom you need to be especially careful when choosing the material for baby bedding.

Bamboo as material for baby bedding

In addition to pure cotton, bamboo viscose and a mixture of cotton and bamboo can also be successfully used to cover children's bedding. Enjoying growing popularity products made of bamboo fabric allow air to pass through, provide adequate thermoregulation, and are also hygroscopic, thanks to which they quickly absorb moisture.   • traditional bedding fabric for children and adults - the most universal and popular;
  • flannel - it works great as a material for winter children's bedding, it is thick and durable, but after prolonged use it can pilling, and if washed improperly - it can shrink;
  • satin - a good choice when it comes to children's bedding for summer, due to the thin material that is slippery to the touch, but pleasant to the skin;
  • jersey and terry fabrics - sheets with an elastic band are most often sewn from them; the denser the weave, the better the quality and durability;
  • Early - as a material for bedding, recommended for older children, due to its roughness and no need to iron.

 What kind of filling for children's bedding is the best?

The material for baby bedding - bed linen to be exact - is one thing, but what is also important is what is inside, i.e. the filling. The load should be light and at the same time provide the right temperature. We can distinguish the following types of filling:

  • synthetic  - perfect for children, also with allergies. It is very important from the point of view of hygiene that the bed linen can be washed in a washing machine. This type of filling is soft to the touch, durable and provides excellent warmth, but does not make children sweat more.
  • natural of down or feathers - not suitable for children's bedding as it cannot be washed, which is required and necessary. This type of filling can be a habitat of dust and mites to which many children are allergic.
  • natural wool - wool perfectly keeps heat and provides ventilation at the same time, but unfortunately it can cause allergies.

The expert advises:

Caring for a good sleep of our children, it is better to avoid children's bed linen made of materials based on plastics, such as acrylic or polyester. These materials are impermeable to air and are not very skin-friendly. In turn, the filling can be synthetic - due to its durability and easy to keep clean, which is important not only in the case of allergies.

In summary, if we are planning to buy bedding for a child, it is worth investing in a good product to ensure comfort for your toddler and take care of his delicate skin and respiratory system.
