Product description

The BIBS® Colour symmetrical pacifier is a vented baby pacifier made of organic Hevea natural rubber, designed for maximum comfort and safety.

The oral section is symmetrically flattened, allowing it to fit snugly into the child's mouth, regardless of how it is placed.

The BIBS® Colour Symmetrical Pacifier's circular shield , made of polypropylene, provides ventilation, reducing the risk of skin irritation and facilitating breathing. The practical handle allows for comfortable holding.

The product is available in two sizes:

S – for babies from birth to 6 months of age;
M – for babies from 6 months of age.

Scope of the Opinion

The purpose of issuing opinions at the Institute of Mother and Child is to assess the product in terms of general safety, health and development of users.

During the subsequent stages of the assessment, the safety of the raw materials included in the product is checked, e.g. through a detailed analysis of the qualitative and quantitative composition of the product. The correctness of the intended age and functionality of the product are also verified, i.e. practical application and the degree of implementation of the product's functional characteristics declared by the manufacturer, as well as the level of user satisfaction.

Study details

Stage I - Documentation assessment

The first stage of the evaluation of the BIBS® Colour symmetrical pacifier confirmed the general and health safety of the product for the group of users declared by the manufacturer, based on the documentation required from the manufacturer.

A detailed analysis of the product and the origin of raw materials was performed, including the results of tests from accredited laboratories confirming their safety. The authenticity of the attestations and certificates of analysis in the scope of the declared product characteristics was verified. All aspects affecting the final quality and safety of the product have been thoroughly analyzed. The documentation of labels and instructions for use was also assessed.

Stage II - Expert sensory evaluation

The subject of expert sensory evaluation were the product properties of utility and functional character influencing the user's developmental safety and suitability in everyday use.

The assessment was carried out on product samples by a team of field specialists, based on the knowledge and experience possessed by experts, current research results, guidelines of field consultants and recommendations of scientific societies as well as applicable legal provisions and subject regulations.

The safe shape of the oral part of a pacifier is currently considered to be a bilateral, symmetrical flattening, the so-called orthodontic or anatomical, as presented by the reviewed product. Flattened pacifiers best adapt to the shape of the oral cavity. Their use does not negatively affect the shape of the palate and the development of teeth, and the shape is most similar to the shape of the nipple.

Stage III - Application testing

The aim of the third stage of product evaluation was to confirm the safety of use and evaluate the product properties declared by the manufacturer during functional tests.

The product was distributed for home use to 11 individuals, primarily medical, scientific, and administrative staff of the Institute, registered in the Institute's research panel and caregivers of infants and children, in accordance with its intended use and the study criteria. Eleven fully completed surveys for children aged 1 to 18 months (4 boys, 7 girls) were included in the final analysis. Infants comprised 82% of the study group. At the end of the study period, users completed an electronic survey on the product's features, assigning ratings on a scale of 1 to 5 in four main categories. The survey was supplemented by in-depth interviews, conducted by the lead expert with five randomly selected users, to expand on their opinions about the product.

The pacifier appealed to both us and the child. My son accepted the pacifier without any problems, it helped to calm the little one down, especially before falling asleep.

The pacifier is comfortable, pretty, light, and fulfills its purpose. The child accepted it without any problems. The latex part changes shape slightly, but this is normal, because it is a raw material that is destroyed by saliva. It needs to be changed more often, but 4 weeks is the maximum time of use.
