Product description

Caparol Indeko-plus This paint is designed for painting walls and ceilings in rooms where the safety of household members, including babies and small children, and high-quality finishes are important. It does not contain solvents or plasticizers, and its the uncolored base is free from preservativesThe colorants used for dyeing do not emit volatile and semi-volatile organic compounds.

Color Caparol Indeko-plus keeps vapor permeability, does not attract dust and stands out a delicately perceptible scent, which makes it easier to paint rooms where the comfort of users is important – including the youngest ones.

The paint creates a strong, matte coating that covers well and is very resistant to cleaning (Class 1 according to PN-EN 13300). This makes it perfect for children's rooms and other interiors where the walls get dirty easily:

schools and kindergartens,
hospitals, nursing homes, medical offices,
all interior spaces requiring high resistance to dirt.

Usage recommended by the manufacturer

The paint can be applied with a brush, roller or spray (also airless).
You will get the best effect by using it on compact, clean, dry and load-bearing interior substrates after priming them.

Solid-colored and evenly absorbent substrates:
one generous layer applied without dilution.
Contrasting or unevenly absorbent substrates:
primer coating of paint diluted with water to 5%.

Next layers can be applied after approx. 4-6 hours.
Minimum substrate and ambient temperature during painting: + 5 ° C.

Scope of the Opinion

The purpose of issuing opinions at the Institute of Mother and Child is to assess the product in terms of general safety, health and development of users.

During the subsequent stages of the assessment, the safety of the raw materials included in the product is checked, e.g. through a detailed analysis of the qualitative and quantitative composition of the product. The correctness of the intended age and functionality of the product are also verified, i.e. practical application and the degree of implementation of the product's functional characteristics declared by the manufacturer, as well as the level of user satisfaction.

Product samples were given to childcare providers selected according to the product's intended use and study criteria. Individuals were registered with the Institute's research panel. Final analysis was conducted on 20 fully completed surveys about children at the age of od 7 months do 14 lat (9 girls, 11 boys).

Stage I - Documentation assessment

During the first stage of paint testing Caparol Indeko-plus the general and health safety of the product was confirmed for the user age group declared by the manufacturer, based on the evaluation of the recipe and the documentation required from the manufacturer. Wyroh was allowedy for utility testing.

A detailed analysis of the product and the origin of raw materials was performed, including the results of tests from accredited laboratories confirming their safety. The authenticity of the attestations and certificates of analysis in the scope of the declared product characteristics was verified. All aspects affecting the final quality and safety of the product have been thoroughly analyzed. The documentation of labels and instructions for use was also assessed.

Stage II - Expert sensory evaluation

The subject of expert sensory evaluation were the product's properties of utility and functional impact on health and development security and pusefulness in everyday use.

The assessment was carried out on product samples by a team of field specialists, based on the knowledge and experience possessed by experts, current research results, guidelines of field consultants and recommendations of scientific societies as well as applicable legal provisions and subject regulations.   

Each team member rated the product on a scale of 1-5 in terms of the criteria listed below. The overall score in each category is the arithmetic mean of the individual expert ratings.

Based on the presented documentation regarding the composition and declared product properties, it can be concluded that the paint, when used as intended, can be considered safe for users. The lack of intense odor and the limited content of substances such as preservatives, solvents, and plasticizers are noteworthy. The use of a binder derived from natural raw materials is also important. Such parameters can be of practical importance when used in rooms intended for children, allergy sufferers, or those hypersensitive to odors. Due to the declared properties, the product can be considered for use in residential spaces and public buildings, such as educational or medical facilities, provided the manufacturer's recommendations regarding application and ventilation are followed.

Stage III - Application and utility testing

The purpose of the third stage of paint evaluation Caparol Indeko-plus was the confirmation of the safety of use and the assessment of the product properties declared by the manufacturer during application tests.

Product samples were given to caregivers of children selected according to the product's intended use and study criteria. Twenty fully completed surveys for children aged 7 months to 14 years (9 girls, 11 boys) were included in the final analysis.  

Skin condition was rated as very good in 80% of the children and good in 20%, with the latter group exhibiting symptoms of atopic dermatitis (50%), dry skin (100%), and a tendency to itch (25%) and irritation (50%). Mucous membranes were in very good condition in all participants. Allergies were diagnosed in 3 children (15%) and asthma in 2. All caregivers had previous experience with paints, and 20% had medical training.

Participants painted rooms measuring 10–30 m², using the product as intended; 55% also painted the ceiling. The previous wall color was most often white (50%), with lighter or more intense shades being less common. The time since the last painting ranged from one to more than six years. Typically, two coats of paint were applied (85%). The product was observed during application and for approximately 14 days after completion.

Potential adverse reactions (skin or mucous membrane irritation, itching, burning, redness), allergic reactions, and asthma exacerbations were monitored. Usability (ease of application, coverage, drying, consistency, efficiency) and fragrance were also assessed. A 1-5 scale and open-ended questions were used, and all observations were recorded in questionnaires.

The paint applied very easily to the wall, just one roll of the roller was enough. It covers well; I had to paint it twice because the previous color was darker. It dries quickly, doesn't irritate, and has a subtle odor. The room can be used immediately after painting.
