Christmas is fast approaching, and you - as a breastfeeding mother - have more and more questions about what you can eat on the Christmas Eve table without worrying about your child's well-being and your own? Here are some dietitian's tips to help you overcome the dilemma of what to eat and what not to eat during the festive feast.
Poppy seed cake and kutia

Before giving birth, you probably looked for the answer to the question "what fish can be eaten during pregnancy"? Have the rules changed now that you have given birth but are breastfeeding? It is definitely still worth choosing fish that accumulate less harmful substances and heavy metals.
Recommended fish species are sardines, herring, trout, cod, tilapia, hake, Pacific salmon, Atlantic mackerel. Raw fish was not recommended during pregnancy, but now you don't have to be afraid of it.
Expert advises
When you were Pregnant, it certainly aroused a lot of controversy halibut. The predatory lifestyle of this fish and its large size mean that white halibut is high in the food chain. Such fish often accumulate more pollutants in their tissues than small fish. Polish experts recognize that white halibut is allowed to eat during pregnancy, but a maximum of 1 portion (approx. 150 g) per week. It is also worth following this recommendation during and after breastfeeding.
Mayonnaise salads
You still remember wondering is it possible to eat mayonnaise during pregnancy. You knew that raw eggs were better avoided, and yet eggs are an essential ingredient in mayonnaise production. And actually - traditional mayonnaise is made from raw yolks, so that's it mayonnaise during pregnancy would not be welcome. But industrial mayonnaises are produced from pasteurized eggs and they are safe for pregnant women. Even now, when you are breastfeeding, you don't have to worry about mayonnaise and you can eat your favorite vegetable salad in peace.
Mushroom dishes
Mushrooms eaten by a nursing mother will not hurt baby. It is true that they are classified as hard to digest, but they have no effect on the digestibility of breast milk and the digestive system of your baby. Of course, it is worth remembering that the mushrooms used in Christmas dishes should come from a trusted source - preferably from our own, proven harvest.
Dishes with cabbage
Cabbage, like mushrooms, is classified as a product hard to digest. But it doesn't really matter to your baby. Cabbage bloating compounds do not pass into milk, so they do not cause gas, colic, abdominal pain or diarrhea in a child. Only you, after eating larger amounts of dishes with cabbage (e.g. dumplings, stew), may later develop flatulence, but this is also a very individual matter.
