Recruitment for kindergarten: what does registration look like and what documents need to be prepared?

How to enroll a child in a state kindergarten, what documents must be submitted to take part in recruitment? When does kindergarten registration start and where can you find the necessary information?

In this article, we introduce parents to the recruitment process for state institutions, tell them how many kindergartens they can apply to and what kindergarten points are awarded for.

How to enroll your child in kindergarten, what should you do first?

Public kindergartens accept children aged 3-6. In exceptional cases, a 2,5-year-old child may be admitted to the facility, but he or she does not take part in the official recruitment process and his or her admission is decided by the management of a given kindergarten.

Children aged 6 are subject to compulsory kindergarten, which means that they must attend kindergarten as part of their yearly preparation for school.

If parents want to enroll their child in kindergarten, first of all, they must choose the child's dream institution (we write about how many kindergartens you can apply to later in the article). Then, you should determine whether the kindergarten recruits online or only in stationary form, and read the recruitment details. To do this, please contact the kindergarten or obtain information from the commune or city office to which the selected facility is assigned.

It is worth bearing in mind that recruitment deadlines and rules may vary slightly in individual communes and cities.

How to enroll a child in kindergarten: in what months of the year is recruitment most common?

Registration for public kindergartens usually begins at the turn of February and March. But kindergarten registration schedule please check the website of the municipality or city office. What does the recruitment process look like? How many kindergartens can you apply to?

Online recruitment

How to enroll a child in a public kindergarten online?

  • You should go to the website of the city or commune office and then register recruitment platform. Thanks to this, parents will have access to a list of kindergartens (taking part in online recruitment) in a given commune/city, along with the number of vacancies available in each facility.
  • Please check to how many kindergartens? you can submit an application in a given commune or city (usually there are 3 locations).
  • We fill it out recruitment form, indicating the facilities in the order that suits our preferences. First, enter the kindergarten to which you would most like to send your child (the so-called first choice facility). It is important to check in advance how many kindergartens you can apply to. If a child does not get into the kindergarten of their dreams, it is very likely that they will get into the second or third choice institution.

How many kindergartens can you apply to at the same time? It depends on the recruitment rules in force in a given commune (we submit the application only to the first-choice kindergarten or to all selected facilities).

Stationary recruitment

How to register a child for kindergarten if the facility does not register online?

  • You must go in person to the given facility and then obtain an application for admission to kindergarten. If recruitment is ongoing, the application can be completed and submitted immediately.
  • If recruitment has not started yet, the application should be collected from the facility, completed at home, and then submitted to the kindergarten after the recruitment process has started.

After submitting an application for admission to kindergarten online or in person, you should check the recruitment results within the set deadline.

How to enroll your child in kindergarten: next recruitment steps

If our child has been qualified for a given kindergarten, we must complete further formalities. These include: confirming the child's enrollment in the facility, as well as completing kindergarten documents, if necessary. Then we wait for the announcement of the list of children finally admitted/not admitted to a given facility.

Once our little one has been adopted, he remains signing a contract with the kindergarten. If your child was not accepted into a given institution and we want to appeal against this decision, we have 7 days from the announcement of the recruitment results to do so. If your child did not get into his or her dream kindergarten in the online recruitment process, let's check whether he or she got into the second or third choice institution that we entered in the application.

What are kindergarten points awarded for? what are statutory and local government criteria?

Recruitment to public kindergartens is free and it should be remembered that the admission of a child to a given facility is not determined by the order of registration, but by punctation allocated according to specific criteria. What are kindergarten points awarded for?

First of all, statutory criteria are taken into account, which are the same (and scored the same) in all public kindergartens in Poland.

What are kindergarten points awarded for according to the statutory criteria?

Priority in recruitment is given to children:

  • with disabilities;
  • one parent is disabled;
  • whose parents are both disabled;
  • whose siblings are disabled;
  • raised by only one parent;
  • from large families (there are at least three children in the family);

What are secondary kindergarten points awarded for?

If, after considering the statutory criteria, there are still places available at the institution, candidates for kindergarten are awarded points according to additional local government criteria. There can be a maximum of 6 local government criteria (often their scores are not the same), and examples include:

  • the candidate has siblings in a given kindergarten;
  • both parents work or study full-time (also applies to single parents);
  • income criterion (income per family member);
  • the child's place of residence.

What documents for kindergarten? should be submitted during recruitment?

The first document to be submitted to a kindergarten is an application to admit a child to a given facility. Secondly, you must provide the kindergarten with documents confirming that you meet statutory or local government criteria, including:

  • A certificate of disability of the candidate's child/parent/sibling,
  • Declaration of large family size,
  • Declaration of raising a child alone (in the event of divorce or separation of parents, a final court judgment regarding custody of the child must also be submitted);

Parents can obtain a list of kindergarten documents needed during recruitment and other necessary information from the facility's management, on the kindergarten's website, or on the commune or city office.
