How to take care of the body during pregnancy?

27 March 2020

Pregnancy is a special time for a woman. When it becomes a fact, we often wait impatiently for the moment when our belly starts to grow. However, we must not forget that a changing body requires increased care, and some treatments are best started ... before pregnancy. So what can we expect? Let's start with cellulite and stretch marks - can we avoid them and how?

Stretch marks

Unfortunately, even if we stood upside down and cursed reality, genetics is responsible for stretch marks. Of course, prophylaxis and increased care can help a bit, but if this problem occurs in our mothers or sisters, it will probably also affect us. The parts of the body most exposed to stretch marks are: breasts, thighs, lower back, and abdomen.

As a preventive measure, we can use peels intended for pregnant women, and regularly, preferably twice a day, lubricate the body with lotions, olives or oils that will perfectly moisturize our skin and to some extent help prevent or reduce stretch marks.

Sometimes, however, there is nothing else to do but accept them, at least for a while.

Cellulite

Cellulite is another bane of pregnant women. It appears in most women, including thin ones, who have never had a problem with it before. What causes its occurrence? There may be several reasons for this:

  • hormonal changes, including increased estrogen production
  • excessive weight gain,
  • water retention in the body
  • unhealthy lifestyle.

Let's remember that any laser treatments, as well as oral preparations intended to fight cellulite during pregnancy, are prohibited. So how do you win this unequal fight? The most obvious comes to the rescue - exercise. Of course, their type, intensity and frequency should be consulted with the attending physician beforehand.

If we do not feel able to perform more ambitious exercises, let's try walks, swimming or activities in the water, which will additionally relieve our spine. We can also use anti-cellulite creams intended for pregnant women or try to prepare our own specificity at home, e.g. with ground coffee combined with olive or coconut oil.

Let's also not forget about the importance of diet. A well-balanced, easily digestible menu can be the key to success. Thanks to it, our body will receive the right amount of nutrients, and the weight will not increase excessively. We should also remember to drink plenty of water and avoid sugary drinks.
