You don't have to panic every time that something bad is going on when your baby starts whining. A baby's cry, that is, a need to be gratified

A crying baby signals that it is looking for the fulfillment of a need - most often we identify it with you feel hungry or want to be close.

Hugging, hugging an infant, kangaroo are among the activities worth trying when you don't know how to calm your newborn baby. This increases the level of oxytocin, a hormone responsible for the feeling of connectedness and security, both in the mother and in the baby.

If a newborn looks with his mouth, shakes his head, sucks his fingers, he lets you know, not only by crying, that he is hungry, he is thirsty. Feeding also calms the newborn. Sometimes a toddler just needs suctionwhich in itself is an extremely soothing activity.

Dry diaper and thermal comfort

If we are wondering how to calm a newborn baby who suddenly started crying, let's check if he does not need to be changed. Another important element in calming the baby down is the question diaper changes. Babies' skin is very sensitive. Heavy and cold, wet or dirty diaper bothers you, and skin irritation can hurt. That is why it is so important scrolling the baby to leave him in the sphere of perceived comfort. An infant's crying may also be the result of anxiety about thermoregulation - it may be too cold or, more often, too warm. A crying baby may be demanding to eat change. It's a good idea to check your baby's neck for cold or sweating by touching their neck. The temperature of the feet and hands is not reliable here.

The soothing noise helps to calm down

We can use noise to soothe the baby, which, with the right intensity and selection of tones, soothes a crying baby. It is about white or pink noise, corresponding to what is heard in the mother's belly during fetal life. Toys that produce this kind of sound have gained popularity, often becoming a ready-made answer to the question of how to calm down a baby, which haunts many parents. It is important that such a product provides the child with a sense of comfort and safety during use. The features that are worth paying attention to when choosing are the volume and duration of the noise, an automatic switch-off and a sensor thanks to which the device is activated when the baby starts crying.

Important voice and facial expressions

Another method that may be used when facing the challenge of soothing a crying baby is by speaking to him. Research proves that balance in crying babies is brought about by the higher tones of the human voice. In addition to the voice, it is also important eye contact; and a calm, gentle expression on the face.

Babies get all their knowledge about the world in which they appeared, from the faces and facial expressions of their adult caretakers - mom and dad. If the face of a loved one is emotionless, thoughtful and hostile, or if there is sadness or tension on it, the child feels this state and treats it as a threat, reacting with anxiety.

Calming rocking and rocking

Rocking - on the hands, in a cradle, a pram, a pram or even a car seat - it usually has a calming effect on a crying baby. During the nine months of pregnancy, the baby got used to rocking in the mother's womb and liked it. However, one must be vigilant in moderation and observe the child. Consider whether the swaying we propose pleases him, or whether it is so surprising or nervous that the restless infant falls silent and freezes, more frightened than calmed down. Calming rocking, pleasantly stimulates the vestibular system, also gives the crying baby the closeness of the parent.

Wrap it around, wrap it up, or maybe take a bath?

One method of calming a crying baby down is wrapping, wrapping the baby in a soft blanket, diaper, special cover. During pregnancy, the baby got used to the tight, warm inside of the mother's womb, to the pressure of the amniotic fluid on the body. After giving birth, he may feel anxious about the surrounding cold and the enormous space in which he finds it difficult to control the movements of his arms and legs. Watch your baby cry to see if it is wrapped and wrapped in a way that suits him. At the same time, delicate pat on the face, starting from the forehead, through the eyelids - up to the cheek, it is also a form of calming a crying child. This makes the little one automatically close his eyes. He may fall asleep if he is tired. Calming a baby or toddler can also be done through kąpielbecause heat relaxes you. There are children for whom it works well to be placed in a bathtub filled with sufficiently warm water in a soft towel, which can only be relaxed after being placed in the water.

Helpful fixed daily schedule and rituals

Usually, tearful babies are those who do not have a daily routine in place. They are often irritable, confused and disappointed, and that is when they cry most often. Crying babies feel that they are not getting what they need at the moment. By introducing a regular daily schedule with regular, recurring activities, the child learns that at a certain time he can expect planned activities. Meals at fixed hours, fixed hours of napping and going to bed in the evening, regular bathing, walking or playing time are the basis for regulating the emotions of an infant. With a well-introduced day routine, the child knows what to expect, is more patient, full and well-rested, and thus - calm and less crying, both during the day and at night.

You can carry a crying baby while massaging its back. Light, circular hand movements stimulate the release of stress-reducing endorphins. You can also lie down with the baby on the bed and stroke his back or belly. Sometimes dancing with the baby in her arms (holding her head at the same time) and singing to him can interest the baby enough to stop crying.

The excess of stimuli does not calm down

There are times, however, when it is especially important to calm down, mute a crying baby. A newborn baby usually does not notice slight noise in the environment, but with time his hearing becomes sharpened, he becomes more sensitive, and from the third month onwards, the baby becomes particularly sensitive to any stimuli. It registers dog barking, engine whirring, noise of domestic appliances, rustling of leaves, conversations, music. If there are too many stimuli in the environment of an infant, and there are still flashing images, strong smells and the tension of adults noticeable in the environment, all this begins to surround him. It is worth protecting a tearful and irritable child from excessive stimuli - avoid loud and crowded places, visits, the radio and TV still playing.

Peaceful parent, that is, let's take care of ourselves

Finally, a point parent's peace of mind - especially we have. This topic is no less important, and sometimes even the most important of all the recommendations for calming a child. Babies and toddlers soak up their parents' emotions like a sponge. Research shows that even while you sleep, they pick up nervous noises in your environment, such as crying or arguing. This does not mean that you must not express your emotions for the sake of your child. Even a toddler knows about them because he feels the feelings hidden by his parents. Sometimes the baby does not want to fall asleep, a the baby is crying just when parents really want to calm down. Unfortunately, showing impatience or dissatisfaction with a toddler in such a situation will not help to soothe him. A crying child also senses tension, fatigue, rush and it is difficult for him to relax and calm down. That is why every parent, both mom and dad, must take care of their own relaxation, conversations that bring relief, relieve tension through physical activity or healthy sleep.
