June 9 2022

Have you noticed that there have been a lot of advertisements for intimate hygiene for girls in the media lately? Meanwhile, 10 years ago this topic practically did not exist. Has anything changed? Or maybe it's just the efficient marketing of the producers of these fluids?

Why does a girl need an intimate hygiene gel?

Due to the lack of estrogenic activity in girls, their external genitalia (vulva) do not have pubic hair or an acidic pH until puberty. That is why their proper care is so important, because the hygiene and health of the vulva affect the health of the vagina.

Intimate hygiene fluid for girls can be useful, among others:

  • in girls with very sensitive skin irritation;
  • w weakened immunity, e.g., after antibiotic therapy, when infections are frequent;
  • on vacation;
  • in girls menstruating.

So where does the popularity of intimate hygiene lotions for girls come from? To some extent, this is the result of the producers' creativity. In addition, today irritation is more common than before, incl. from numerous cosmetics already used in young children, as well as in connection with environmental and water pollution.

Many adult women reach for intimate hygiene gel, e.g. only after childbirth or on vacation. Others cannot imagine their daily hygiene without it. If a child's skin is often irritated, the use of such cosmetics may be appropriate. The intimate hygiene gel for girls will be necessary if recommended by a gynecologist, dermatologist or pediatrician. First of all, however, it is worth eliminating the cause of constant irritation, e.g. washing powder with an aggressive formula used to wash a child's underwear, or frequent urinary tract infections. This does not mean, however, that every girl should use such a product.

The expert advises:

Opinions on the use of intimate hygiene fluids in girls are divided and arouse discussions among some doctors and parents. Some gynecologists believe that ordinary water is sufficient for hygiene of intimate parts of girls. They are also usually not in favor of using these agents on adult women, advising them to use plain, non-perfumed soap for this purpose. In turn, according to dermatologists, lotions and gels for intimate hygiene have a much milder effect on the skin and mucous membranes of intimate areas than soap. Moreover, their role is not only to wash the vulva. They also have a moisturizing and protective effect, which reduces the risk of irritation and infection. Compared to products intended for adult women, lotions and gels for intimate hygiene for girls are distinguished by particularly mild ingredients, and their action is often more gentle than shower lotions intended for washing the body.
