The hum of amniotic fluid and other sounds in the prenatal period

To provide your baby with the best conditions for life and development, we try you eliminate everything in perspective adult person seems to disturb his peace, rest and sleep. In the first weeks of life newborns they sleep about 16-18 hours a day. It turns out, however, thate silence does not always make it easier im falling asleep - it often happens that the baby cries after being put in the crib. Why is this happening?

The expert advises:

Being in silence is not a natural experience for a newborn baby, because he was exposed to many different sound stimuli during the prenatal period. The world of sounds coming from the mother's body is very rich, it includes the noise of the amniotic fluid, the rhythmic beating of the mother's heart, sounds related to the work of her digestive system or movement. The developing baby also hears sounds from the outside world, although muffled by the amniotic fluid. It is worth noting that in the womb, the baby is accompanied mainly by low-frequency sounds.

Baby noise sounds familiar

After birth, a child's working environment changes radically. The first clash of a newborn with the outside world is the chill it feels when it is born, a new touch - of the hands that embrace it, as well as clear sounds and other stimuli coming from the environment. Everything is around the newborn baby for him foreign.

The first weeks and months of life are time of adaptation to the extrauterine environment and establishing a sleep-wake rhythm. It is not surprising, therefore, that at this time they can occur in infants difficulty falling asleep, crying both before falling asleep and after waking up or when trying to put you to sleep. Many parents wonder what to do when a baby cries after being put to bed?

The expert advises:

What we can provide an infant at this time to calm him down is our closeness, body heat, peace, tender hugging and all other gestures reminiscent of the known and safe prenatal period. Rhythmic rocking or rocking, wrapping in a nappy or blanket, singing and whispering are proven methods worth trying in these situations. Prenatal-like sounds can give your newborn a sense of security.

The problem, however, is that sometimes even proven methods of calming and calming down do not help (e.g. during the period of intestinal colic or teething), we are also not able to watch with the baby around the clock. Then hype can help us - of course, not everyone

White and pink noise for baby

From a scientific-technical point of view, we distinguish 3 types of noise:

  • white;
  • pink;
  • Red.

Other sources also mention blue, violet and even black noise.

White noise

It has a static sound of even intensity, reminiscent of the "ssss". Research on its effect on calming and putting babies to sleep was conducted as early as in the 90s of the twentieth century. Of the 3 types of noise mentioned, it has the sharpest sound. The research results confirmed that due to its monotony, it allows children to "cut off" from other sounds, calming them down and accelerating falling asleep.

Pink noise

It has been gaining more and more popularity recently pink noise – with properties intermediate between white and red – and a sound similar to the vowel “ffffor the sound of a river.

It turned out that noise similar to pink is produced by many natural phenomena of nature, and by eliminating high-frequency sounds it is more friendly to the ear, more pleasant to hear, and moreover resembles the sounds of fetal life to a greater extent (e.g. ). This makes parents more and more often ask about pink noise for a child, and devices emitting it are gaining popularity.

Children's noise in practice

Before pink noise for baby began to be used in products designed to soothe and put babies to sleep, parents coped by using turned on hair dryers, vacuum cleaners, fans, radios out of tune and other household appliances. Later, recordings with various types of humming noises available on the Internet gained popularity.

Today, except smartphone applications (which is not entirely safe to use to soothe babies), we have at our disposal specially designed toys – cuddly toys, equipped with noise-emitting deviceswhich, thanks to built-in sensors, activate in response to the baby's crying.

Noise-emitting toys: what to pay attention to?

Products emitting noise are intended for newborns and infants, so it should be a priority when buying them security.

When making a choice, be sure to pay attention to:

  • quality raw materials for the product,
  • volume noise emitted by the device,
  • ease of washing product,
  • possibility removal electronic device,
  • possibility of safe attachments toys out of reach of the child (minimizes the risk of the so-called sudden infant death).

Baby noise: moderation and common sense

Let's remember that the use of devices that emit white or pink noise for a child should always be dictated by a real need. If the infant falls asleep without problems - during breastfeeding / bottlefeeding or hugging, in the vicinity of a parent, and after putting it back in bed, it sleeps peacefully and does not wake up - no need for additional "humming tranquilizers". If it is otherwise and we decide on the use of noise, let's be moderate and don't turn it on go for many hours, e.g. overnight, without a break.

The noise should not be emitted for more than an hour, a maximum of one and a half. Let's also make sure that the device is at a safe distance from the head child.
